House OKs veterans’ disability COLA

House lawmakers approved a bill that will boost veterans’ disability compensation by the same percentage as the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment.

The Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2014 (S. 2258), which cleared the House on a voice vote Sept. 15, applies to disability compensation, additional compensation for dependents, the clothing allowance for certain disabled veterans, and dependency and indemnity compensation for surviving spouses and children. The COLA goes into effect Dec. 1.

The bill, which the Senate approved by unanimous consent last week, now goes to the president for his signature.
