If quitting tobacco were easy, everybody would have done it by now.
The fact is that many people have trouble quitting on their own. For those who need a little help, TRICARE has now unveiled a new anti-tobacco program called Quit Tobacco Make Everyone Proud.

The site helps TRICARE members learn more about quitting, develop their own individualize plan for quitting, create a blog for accountability, sharing, outreach or simply journaling, and getting live help online, 24 hours a day.
Among the sites features is a savings calculator. This is quite a potential motivator! You can go to the savings calculator to see how much quitting tobacco can add to your savings account each day, each month, each year, and over the course of a decade. For example, someone who smokes 10 cigarettes per day, and pays $10 per pack, stands to save over $12,000 over the next ten years.
You can also use the savings calculator to calculates what you’d save from quitting smokeless tobacco or both cigarettes and smokeless tobacco.
Developing a Plan
The program also walks participants through a four-step quitting plan:
- Identifying your motivation or reason for quitting.
- Selecting a quit date,
- Identify and avoid or eliminate triggers.
- Rallying support from friends, unit members, family.
Treatment Aid and Drug Information
The Quit Tobacco site has a page for more detailed information about treatment alternatives to cold turkey, including nicotine gums, patches, inhalers, lozenges and medications.
